The following course has been created by Kanyo to enable you the client to develop your own website. The format of these courses involves both theoretical and practical learning. The aim is for the client to complete their website during the course.

Joomla

The Joomla Core course will include a free .co.uk domain name and web hosting for the first year. We will also provide handout material of the course content.

Joomla Core

This will run over a period of two full days or four evenings. Included in this course is:
• The selecting of the most suitable domain name
• Setting up hosting, ftp and configuration of email.
• Installation and configuration of Joomla (including finding your way around; adding pages and content; and, finally, adding a selection of widely used modules).

It is recommended that you bring your laptop to this course. It is also necessary that you complete homework tasks, for example creating the written content and images that you want to add to the website. The aim of this course is that you develop the practical knowledge to enable you to create further sites in the future.

Joomla Option 1 Design / Templates

This course will explain what a template is as well as how to install and tweak them. We also look, in some detail, at two of the main tools available to create the design you want quickly.

Joomla Option 2 SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)

This course will take you through the setting up and configuration of many modules to help your site be found online by the search engines. Using a content management product, like Joomla, can make it harder to apply certain optimisation techniques to your site. However, thanks to the many additional modules and plugins available (generally for free) these tasks can be simplified. This is a great course if you want to be found online by the search engines.

Joomla Option 3 Adding a shopping cart

This course takes you through setting up and configuring two different shopping cart solutions. The first shopping cart provides you with a very quick and simple e-commerce solution for shopping online. The second shopping cart gives you a full shopping solution, with many additional features.

The aim of these courses is to train you, the client, to create and manage your own web site without having to revert to web developers each time you need to make a change.
